Project 365 - Day 88

My brownies turned out so good this time, just the right balance between gooey and crispy. Unfortunately a lot of them got stuck to the bottom of the pan (still haven't fixed that problem) so there weren't a lot of 'pretty' brownies.

Thankfully, brownies can be eaten whether they are pretty or not. I'm so glad I live with people who are accepting of all types of brownies!

Sure it's sorta powdered sugar looking, and you can still see the grass...a lot. But it's snow! Oh, Michigan, I knew that you were just kidding with those sunny days and the temps in the 80's.

Evil lunch?

Running errands and doing laundry for my little sis netted me lunch today. Which I would normally call a win in the little sister barter system, except for the fact that the bill came to $6.66. Creepy. The lady at the drive through even asked me if I wanted to add something to the order. I'm hoping that the good karma of helping my sister cancels out the evil on my burger.*


*yeah, I don't believe in karma or evil burgers. I do believe that jalapenos on burgers are evil but I'm pretty sure that's not demonic in nature.

Project 365 - Day 85

Cookie Time! Thanks to Cheryl's oatmeal coconut recipe and Gina's willingness to bake in the middle of the night we had delicious cookies to eat. (Although Heather and I still maintain that they would have been even yummier with raisins!) The color difference in the picture is due to one batch being cooked a bit longer. I personally think that the darker ones were yummier because of their crunchiness.

Streets Ahead!

I don’t remember who told me first about Community. But to that person, you are so streets ahead! This show amuses me so very much. I’ve watched the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons episode half a dozen times and it still makes me laugh. Modern Warfare from season one is the most epic paintball battle of all time and there is not a single episode with Deeks Vaughn that I don’t love. The tags with Troy and Abed are my favorite, whether they are rapping in Spanish or hosting their own imaginary morning show.

Community isn’t exactly the most intellectual show out there, it’s got more than its fair share of ‘poop’ jokes. There are times when I feel like the actors are funnier than the material they are given. As many times that I wish the show could be longer, there are times when I think it could be condensed into a good ten minutes. But it makes me laugh. A lot. Which makes it pretty awesome.

Sitting in the ER with my sister, something that I spent several hours doing this weekend. At least my shoes are cute (and my sister is getting better!)

When you see green, you know it's spring. While that adage usually applies to trees and grass and flowers, you can also throw in the annual shamrock shake tradition at McDonalds. It only comes around once a year in the spring and this year I was happy to not only get my lovely green shake...but now it comes in a see-thru cup for maximum greenage! Yay!

Project 365 - Day 78

Yes, today is the 99th day of the year...and yet I'm only at day 78 of Project 365. I've been slacking off for a variety of reasons, some of them good (bronchitis, busy) and some of them not-so-good (laziness, forgetting my camera).

But, as they say on Galaxy Quest, "never give up, never surrender!" So I'm going to jump back in and keep going. If you've fallen behind on your project 365 pictures, I declare April to be amnesty month. Start back up! Post a pic! Take a pic! Who cares if you're behind, the important thing is to keep taking pictures.

Today I’m going to feature a poem by my favorite writer. It’s a beautiful piece that explains the heart of a person so very eloquently. I don’t know if it’s the lyrical quality of the poem, or the way the words tell a story of hidden pain and yet such obvious longing for comfort…but this poem never fails to make me tear up a bit.

My World of Tears – Lindsay Anderson

Welcome to my world of tears
a place of my stored pains and fears.
I will not often open this door
know you walk on hallowed floor.
Most just see the pasted smiles
I keep within my many files
of masks I use to hide behind
so my real face stays only mine.
Quite a lot fills these halls,
memories both new and old
a collected part of this great fold.
Scenes or emotions fill these spaces
from many different times and places.
You'd be surprised how far they go;
I was young when it began to grow
into a large but hidden closet,
where my secret wounds I could deposit.
So few have even seen this land
I could yet count them on my hand.
So if you really want to see
the real and true uncovered me
then open both your eyes and ears
