Historic Pocahontas

031 Larry gave us a great tour of Pocahontas, which is much hillier than what I anticipated. It’s also got a lovely downtown area full of old buildings with a lot of history.

033Our first stop was Futrell Pharmacy, where we had been told we could find postcards. We did find postcards plus a soda fountain! It had old Coke signs, stick candy, old fashioned ice cream glasses and red stools for spinning. It was really very cool. 034

The old courthouse was available to walk thru but we decided to go to the Randolph County Heritage Museum instead (I’ll do a different post for pictures of that.) One of the cool things they had was a quilt trail. On each of the buildings in the downtown area they had huge posters of different quilt patterns. It was fun to walk around the corner to find the next pattern.

037We also stopped in what used to be the old city hall and is now a bead and craft store with some amazing pieces of artwork. If only I had a couple of thousand to drop on all the pretties I found! 040

Well worth the trip downtown to take the pictures. It’s a nice downtown area.  035
