Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and Child.
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight;
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!
Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love’s pure light;
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
Silent night, holy night
Wondrous star, lend thy light;
With the angels let us sing,
Alleluia to our King;
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!
This has always been my favorite Christmas carol…and possibly my favorite hymn. Every Sunday night when I was a kid, the congregation got to suggest hymns to sing for worship. We were a small church and I was very outgoing, so I tried every week to suggest we sing ‘Silent Night’ – no matter if was snowing or summer outside. To be honest, I don’t remember them letting me choose all that often, but that certainly didn’t stop me from suggesting it or from humming it all year round.
A couple of versions for your listening pleasure this holiday – First, Bing Crosby because he is awesome, always.
Here’s The Temptations singing Silent Night during the Motown Merry Christmas special. It’s like being in Detroit for Christmas!
Finally, a really pretty guitar version. I could listen to this all night!
